Grosmont v Gt Ayton: Aeven game for the first 15 minutes at which time Gt Ayton won a penalty, which was converted well by Leng.

Just three or four passes after the restart Gt Ayton increased the lead through Murray. Jeffrey then won the ball for Grosmont to chip the keeper, his shot hit the foot of the post and Jobling reacted quickly to find the target and pull a goal back. However Ripley increased Gt Ayton's lead to give his team a comfortable lead going into the break Grosmont began the second half well and won an early penalty but, unfortunately, Jobling failed to convert. Gt Ayton broke immediately, Snaigh netting a scrambled goal to give Gt Ayton a 1 - 4 lead. Grosmont never gave up and their efforts paid off when a through ball from Raw found Jeffrey who beat the keeper from the edge of the box The game remained even until with 15 minutes to go both Ripley and Murray scored to give Gt Ayton, what was in the end a convincing win.

Highland Laddie v Hinderwell

After an even start the Laddie quickly came to terms with the conditions and the goals started to come. The first in the 15th minute came when Neesham crossed for Lowther to slot home. This was followed by a one - two between Combellack and Dowson, Combellack finding the top corner of the net. A headed goal from Taylor made it 3 - 0, further chances fell to Burns, who headed wide and to Combellack but the score line remained at the break. Laddie continued to dominate in the second half, Burns slammed in a Taylor corner, then after good work from Nesbitt, Lowther tapped in the 5th. A Neesham free kick found the head of Cobellack for him to score his second. Substitute, Morgan. Slammed a powerful shot straight at the Hinderwell keeper before second substitute, Rye raced down the pitch for Storey to score with a 20 yard drive. Rye was again instumental in the build up which led to Combellack completing his hat trick and Laddie gaining a convincing 8-0 victory.

Lealholm v Annandale Hotel

Although Lealholm began the better team, Harland hitting the bar after ten minutes, it was Annandale who opened the scoring 5 minutes later when a break lad to Booth scoring into an empty net. Lealholm were quick to reply, winning two corners in a matter of minutes. After coming close to scoring with the first corner they managed to find the equaliser with the second when Harland found the target from 25 yards. A long range shot from Chadwick gave Lealholm a narrow lead at the break. Annandale began the second half strongly but against the run of play, Lealholm went further ahead when Robinson beat the offside trap to put the ball through to Brown who saw his good shot well saved only for Harlsnd to score off the rebound. A Carruther's header from a free kick gave Lealholm their fourth. They then sat back on their lead and allowed Annandale back into the game, Booth scoring his second from the edge of the area. A good run from Harland led to a goal from Knight to give the home side a 5-2 lead. Annandale continued to press forward, substitute, Lewis scoring on the break but with just two minutes left it was too late to make any real difference.

Loftus Ath v Goldsborough

On a heavy pitch the teams were evenly matched but few chances were made due to good defensive work from both teams, the only goal of the first half coming on 25 minutes when Dixon scored from 8 yards to give Loftus the lead. Goldsborough saw more of ball in the second half but were unable to create any clear cut chances and Loftus increased the lead in the 65th minute when Todd scored from close range. Dent pulled a goal back for the visitors in the 80th minute with a shot into the bottom corner of the net. Dent came close again a few minutes later when he reached the ball just before the Loftus keeper but clipped just past the post. The Loftus defence remained solid and ensured victory for the home team. Match sponsor was D.Thompson & sons.

Redcar Mackinlay Park v Anchor Inn

The first half remained goalless, both sides missing chances but in the second period Mackinlay took the lead when Ayres scored. Anchor pressed forward and for long periods were camped in Mackinlay's half. The equaliser came when Scott crossed and although Henwood managed to block, the Redcar defence failed to clear allowing Anchor to level. Mackinlay Park managed to snatch the lead in the last few minutes when a corner was poorly cleared and Jackson found the net.

Whitby Fisherman's v Boosbeck Utd

Early pressure forced the Whitby defence into mistakes and Boosbeck capitalised Winter rounded the defender and clipped it over the keeper. The second half saw Whitby pushing forward for the equaliser but then Boosbeck went further ahead when Parry drove the ball past the keeper. More goals came from Slater, Thompson and Johnson give Boosbeck a deserved 5-0 win.

North Riding Challenge Cup

Grangetown YCC v Brotton WMC

With the Grangetown defence solid, Brotton were restricted to just one chance in the first half which keeper Moore tipped over. The second half continued in the same vein, before Scott pounced to open the scoring for Grangetown. Grangetown, however, could not press home their superiority and Brotton equalised after a scramble from a corner. Grangetown regained the lead, Scott finishing off a great move and they finished the game strongly. With Staithes Ath going down 5-2 to Thornaby Mandale, Grangetown are the only league member to reach the semi finals.

Lingdale Utd v Lingdale Tavern

Sponsored by UPVC Fitting Services, both teams began very well in the heavy conditions and Hololob opened the scoring with a fine shot from 20 yards giving the Tavern keeper no chance. Fordor added to United's score when he slotted home. Tavern pulled a goal back through Neil Calvert and then a minute later Gary Calvert found the equaliser, slotting home from close range. Tavern came out the stronger team in the second half and took the lead when Breckon scored from close range. Breckon's second goal in the last minute took Tavern through to the semi finals.

Following a horrendous six week period weather-wise the league is gradually getting back to normal.

In the Cup Poverina were taken to the wire by Priestfields before emerging 3-2 winners. Playing with only ten men Priestfields took the lead early in the second half, Darren McPhillips beat four men before scoring. Poverina levelled when Michael Flynn found the net only for Priestfield to go back in front again, McPhillips scoring. As Priestfields then men tired Poverina tied the score, Lee Bytheway netting. With just minutes to go Stephen Parker got Poverina's winner.

Cleveland Inn beat Boosbeck SA 6-2. Colin McMenamin put Cleveland in front but Boosbeck levelled through Liam Watson. Ray Woodhouse restored Cleveland's lead but Boosbeck's Shaun Mathews put them level. Cleveland Inn upped their game as Boosbeck conceded a further four. John Ryan hit a brace, Woodhouse got his second and Mathew Homer a single.

In the league Redcar Glazing beat Jack and Jill 7-2. Two quick strikes from Peter Manton and Craig Marey put Redcar on their way. Jack and Jill hit back only for Carl Eddon to restore Glazing's two-goal advantage. Again Jack and Jill scored to make it 3-2 at the break. Redcar Glazing knocked in a further four goals, Manton got his second, Paul Morgan made it five and Craig Carey recorded his hat trick.

In the North Riding Sunday Challenge cup both D and E Locksmiths and Iceland went out, both to last minute goals. D and E away to Tanfield Brothers were locked at 1-1 on 89 minutes when a Tanfield deflected the ball over the line. Ben Lithgow scoring for D and E.

Iceland took on Osmotherley Rangers and lost by the odd goal in seven. A penalty by Paul Wood put Iceland in front only for Rangers to get back on terms. Tom Connelly put Iceland in front before Osmotherley hit back then snatched the lead. Connelly scored his second and extra time looked ominous until the 90th minute. The referee gave Osmotherley a penalty that was converted to the sorrow of Iceland.

To have two teams reaching the last eight of the competition is a feather in the cap for this league which also have Cleveland Inn in the semi-final of the North Riding County Cup. They are away to Nestle Rowntree at York and must stand a good chance of reaching the final where they would meet A and D Computers or Miners Arms (Eston)
