THE brother of Girls Aloud star Cheryl Tweedy appeared in court yesterday.

Andrew Tweedy, 22, was arrested for breaking into a car.

Tweedy, of Langhorn Close, Walker, Newcastle, denied touching the Ford Sierra Sapphire when he was apprehended by police, claiming someone had been there before him.

But he changed his mind when he found out he had been caught by a security camera rifling through the boot of the car.

Prosecutor Clive Freemantle told magistrates in Newcastle: "Council workers in Byker had been watching the defendant clearly tampering with a Sierra Sapphire car.

"He was arrested but, in interview, denied the offence.

"But a picture paints a thousands words and in a video of the incident, the defendant can be seen clearly trying the car doors and then opening the boot and taking items from it."

After seeing the video, Tweedy changed his plea and admitted interfering with a motor vehicle.

Lewis Pearson, defending, said: "He apologies unequivocally for his behaviour,

"From a boy, he has had difficlutly with solvent abuse. That is now under control."

Sentencing was adjourned until March 7 for reports.

Following yesterday's hearing, Tweedy said: "I was going through a bad time. I am getting myself back on my feet and I have given up the glue."

A spokesman for Girls Aloud's record company Polydor declined to comment on the matter.
