A NORTH-East television actor is returning to the region to star in a musical.

Sarah Preston, who played nurse Karen Newburn in the BBC hospital drama Holby City, is performing in a musical adaptation of George Eliot's novel Silas Marner, at the Customs House, in South Shields, South Tyneside.

Ms Preston, who has also taken leading roles in two Catherine Cookson films, Tilly Trotter, and The Glass Virgin, said: "While it is fantastic to be returning home, it is a wonderful feeling knowing I will be appearing in a fantastic new production.

"It is a terrific challenge for me as an actor and I jumped at the chance to appear, knowing the show will be excellent. The fact that this is my first professional theatre performance makes it even more special."

The production runs from Wednesday, February 26, to Saturday, March 1.

Performances start at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £7, and £5 for concessions. To book, call the Customs House box office on 0191-454 1234.
