A FALCONER paid a visit to Colburn Primary School to give youngsters a rare opportunity to have a close look at birds of prey.
Children handled eagles and tawny owls, a Harris hawk and a peregrine falcon when Silver Band Falconry, of Appleby, Cumbria, spent three days at the school.
Pupils gathered in the school hall to learn about the birds and then spent the afternoon in classrooms having a closer look at the birds.
"The children were able to handle the birds and draw and sketch them, which they enjoyed very much," said headteacher Graham Else. "Getting first hand, hands-on experience makes such a difference to what they learn. I don't think any child could fail to be fascinated by these birds of prey."
The visit was the second by the company, which visits schools in Cumbria and County Durham.
