RESIDENTS in Middlesbrough are being asked to help community wardens keep an eye on schools during half-term week.
School buildings are often targeted by vandals during holidays and Middlesbrough Council wants to crack down on problems this week.
Councillor Barry Coppinger, the authority's executive member for law and order, said: "The wardens play a key role in being the eyes and ears of the town, but they can only work to best effect when they are supported by residents.
"All the messages we are getting indicate that they are seen as a welcome and reassuring presence. I am sure that residents will help them keep schools safe."
Anyone who sees vandalism or antisocial behaviour in or near a school is asked to call the council on (01642) 726050.
