A HOSPITAL near Darlington has received an award for providing healthy food for patients and staff.

Middleton St George Hospital has received a Heartbeat Award for the quality of its menus in the main catering unit and the Copper Kettle restaurant.

Heartbeat is a national award for caterers who are committed to offering greater choice to customers by providing a healthy environment and healthy food choices.

The award was presented to hospital operations manager Linda Stephens and catering manager Tony Bell by Keith Atkinson, assistant director at Darlington Borough Council. Mr Bell said: "While keen to ensure we give our customers choice, we take healthy eating very seriously and take great care when planning our menus. We are delighted to be recognized for our efforts in ensuring that our staff and patients are able to choose from a healthy, tasty menu."
