A DARLINGTON church is in the running for a heritage grant to restore its roof.
Church workers at St James the Great, in the town's Albert Hill area, have applied to English Heritage for a grant of £196,000.
They hope to use the money to restore the church roof and the west window.
The roof has not been renovated since the church was built 126 years ago.
An application for funding was made in September and last month, the church was visited by an English Heritage architect.
Fundraising carried out by the church has raised £201,000 in the past ten years.
Ian Grieves, vicar of St James the Great, said it was hoped to have English Heritage's decision by the end of the month.
