A VICTORIAN town hall is to get a facelift later this year.
Nearly £70,000 is to be spent revamping Thornaby Old Town Hall, which was built in 1892.
A grant of £50,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, coupled with £19,000 from Stockton Borough Council's coffers, means the authority can carry out its long-standing restoration plans for the Grade II listed building.
The plans to restore the building to its former glory follow consultation with the creative businesses that use the hall.
Derek Lincoln, the council's external funding and strategy officer, said: "The project planning grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund shows the importance that is being placed on this regeneration scheme. We feel we are now in a strong position to complete the restoration of this emotive local landmark."
The restoration work is expected to be finished by May.
