DUSTY old blackboards have made way for modern whiteboards at a West Auckland school thanks to fundraisers.
The Friends of Copeland Road Primary School raised more than £300 to have boards fitted in five classrooms and the library.
Pam Alderson, the group's secretary, said: "The group is made up of mainly parents, a few staff and villagers who want to support the school.
"We held a Christmas fair, quiz and bingo nights and a school disco to raise money for the boards and still have some left over to help us buy some charts to use with them."
Acting deputy headteacher Janice Stobbs said: "The new boards are a big improvement for teachers and children. They're bigger, cleaner, easier to use and better for the children to read.
"We're really grateful to the friends for purchasing this equipment and people who helped them raise money, they're support is valuable and appreciated."
