A MAN had to be rescued by police and firefighters after jumping into the River Ouse at York.
Police were called after reports that the man, thought to be in his 20s, had leapt into the river near the centre of the city at about 11pm on Friday.
Sergeant Andy Farrar said: "We got a phone call saying a man had jumped into the river by Scarborough Bridge and they had not seen him come to the surface.
"Officers found him in the water holding on to the middle support of the bridge. A Fire and Rescue team were called out and he was pulled out."
The man was taken to hospital suffering from exposure and was treated by hospital staff, said Sgt Farrar.
