MATCHSTICK models created by a former mine mechanic went on display in the region yesterday.
After leaving his job as a mechanic at South Hetton pit, Ron Henry, of Murton, east Durham, took up the hobbies of model making and cross stitch. Now a selection of his matchstick models, including a musical barrel organ complete with monkey, fire engine, tram car and water mill are on show at the Discovery Centre, Seaton Holme, in Easington Village.
Mr Henry's cross stitch designs are also included in the exhibition, which runs until April 1.
A spokeswoman said: "Some of Ron's designs adorn some churches around the area, as well as his friends' homes.
"Come along and see what can be done with those matchsticks you usually throw away."
