INDEPENDENT advice on the price of gas and electricity is on offer in Stockton.
The Environment Centre, in West Row, is giving residents instant price comparisons from more than 20 energy companies.
Since regulations opening up competition between gas and electricity firms were introduced in 1998, millions of people have changed suppliers and made substantial savings.
The centre's experts will be on hand to help anyone put off by door-to-door sales techniques or confused by options.
Mike Chicken, Stockton Borough Council's environmental projects manager, said: "What we are trying to do is put local people at ease by offering advice that is both independent and impartial."
