TWO major defence procurement firms are expected in the region next week to brief industry on a new gun system for the Royal Navy.
United Defense and Raytheon are hoping to win a contract to replace the aged and outdated 4.5-in Mk 8 gun, which has been in service with the Navy for more than 40 years.
The replacement system will operate on the Type 45 destroyer, which is being built by BAE Systems.
Northern Defence Industries (NDI) has brought the contractors to the region to see if North-East and Yorkshire businesses can tender to build and maintain the gun system.
A presentation will be held on Wednesday in Newcastle City Council chambers.
