YOUNG cricketers have bowled over rival schools to win a place in the finals of a major tournament.
Pupils at Stanley Comprehensive School are through to the last 12 in the under-16s, six-a-side cricket tournament, held at Headingley, Leeds.
They won two group stages to make it into the knock-out finals.
PE teacher Anthony Marshall said: "They have done really well, in keeping with our tradition in the competition. Teams in the past have reached the finals and even the semi-finals in 1999. Hopefully, this year we can win it."
The team, captained by Paul Craig, with vice-captain Kevin Dixon and players Liam Taylor, James Gill, Gavin Crooks and Chris Rainbow, will travel to Headingley for the finals, on March 30.
