WHEN Daniel Taylor was pushed down a flight of steps into a pub's cellar, he decided to turn the misfortune to his advantage, a court heard yesterday.
Taylor, 19, picked himself up, gathered six bottles from the cellar's stock in his arms and climbed back up to the ground floor.
Caroline Midgley, prosecuting, told Harrogate magistrates he had been on his way out of the back door of the Harts Horn, in Silver Street, Knaresborough when a barman detained him and called the police.
When Taylor, of Bowling Green Yard, Knaresborough, pleaded guilty to the theft of four bottles of Jack Daniel's, one of Baileys and one of Aftershock - worth a total of £283.50 - a burglary charge was dropped. He was fined £100 with £70 costs.
In mitigation, Peter Olley said Taylor had been celebrating with friends, one of whom had pushed him down steps as he made his way to the toilet.
