Crook League
The first half of the League Singles and Doubles Championships were held at Crook Jelly's Bar with two players going through to the Finals Night from the singles and two pairs from the Doubles. The successful players in the singles section were Chris Raine and Gerald Parkin, both from Crook Olde Horse Shoe. The qualifiers from the Doubles section were Colin and Anita Howe of Crook Golden Fleece B and Dougie Smailes and Peter Genner of Crook Queen's Head A.
Tow Law and District
Brotherly love was put on hold in the final of the League's Double Championship when Alan Henderson and brother, Arthur were on opposing teams at the Tow Law Rose and Crown. Alan was paired up with Colin Armstrong representing Tow Law North Point, whilst Arthur was joined by Charlie Donaghy from Tow Law Football Club, who were the titleholders. The football representatives retained their title when they only lost one leg in the final.
The results of the last eight were Pat Elliott & Jim Christalow (Hamilton Row Black Horse) lost to Alan Henderson and Colin Armstrong (Tow Law North Point); Goff Bramfitt & Bill Goodall (Tow Law New Market) beat Barry Sims & Colin Metcalfe (Hamilton Row Black Horse); Arthur Henderson & Charlie Donaghy (Tow Law Football Club) beat Rob Day & Graeme Thompson (Lanchester King's Head); Gavin Tenant and Ray Weir (Tow Law New Market) lost to Dale Duxfield & Phil Spencer (Tow Law New Market). In the semi-finals Armstrong and Alan Henderson beat Bramfitt and Goodall, whilst Arthur Henderson and Donaghy beat Duxfield and Spencer.
The League's Presentation Evening will be held in Tow Law New Market on Friday, 11 April.
Willington & District League
Jimmy Fleming of Willington Brewer's Droop B clinched the Player of the Year award despite some teams still having three matches left to play. Jimmy reached this milestone when he won at Sunnybrow Brown Trout, where he saw his team beaten in the decider. Davey Gallagher took a second point for the Brewer's B whilst Rita Welch and Dave Blackburn levelled. In the decider, the Trout's Ian Stoker beat Bob Thompson. This defeat for the Brewer's B has moved them three points behind the leading Willington Cottles A, who also have a match in hand. Hunwick Club are just one point behind the Brewer's Droop B with the same games played.
Willington Cottles strengthened their championship chances after they only dropped one point to the visiting Prospect Club. The home winners were Brett Fleming, Paul Trow, Joe Bone and Gilly Spark whilst Adrian Peacock took the Prospect's only point.
