ENTRIES are being invited for the annual Junior Mayor and Mayoress for a Day competition, which is open to youngsters between nine and 11 years old who live in the Darlington borough.
Two winners will be invited to wear the chains of office for the day, accompanied by their parents, and will help Mayor Doris Jones on her duties on May 6.
There will be visits to Darlington fire and police stations, a VIP lunch at Walworth Castle, a broadcast from the studios of Alpha Radio, a visit to Middlesbrough Football Club's training ground at Hurworth, and a visit to the closed circuit television control room in Darlington. They will also receive a framed photograph of themselves with the mayor and mayor's escort.
This year's competitors are being asked to write a 250-word essay on "What I like about Darlington, and how to improve it".
