Six Billingham swimmers qualified for the Northumberland and Durham Counties Championships which took place over the last two weekends. All swimmers excelling themselves against very tough opposition. 10 year old Glen Martin was outstanding with all p.b.'s, picking up six medals five of them gold. His last race of the day being the 200m free where he not only came in gold position but qualified to swim in the Nationals in May as an 11 year old with a time of 2.24.89. His other races included gold in the 50m back, 200m I.M., 200m back, 100 I.M. 200m free, silver in the 50m fly, 4th in his 50m back and 200m breast and 6th place for his 50m breast. 12 year old Christopher Wilkinson swam superbly knocking chunks off all his p.b.s. He gained a silver medal in the 100m fly with his other swims being 4th in the 200m fly, 5th in the 200m free, 100m free and 100m I.M. 6th in the 100m free, 7th in the 200 I.M. and 13th in the 200m back. 11 year old Anthony Brown with all p.b.'s swam brilliantly in the100m I.M. coming 14th, his other swims were 200m free, and 200m I.M.. With an excellent p.b.. 12 year old Bradley Dixon finished 11th in the 100 I.M. The only girl qualifier for Billingham was 13 year old Joanne Longster who swam really well to come 15th in both her 200m back and 100m back. Phil Grounds in the 14 year old category with splendid p.b.'s in all his races came 9th in his 200m fly, 10th in the 100m fly and 100m I.M. , he also swam 100m back. At the end of the fortnight all BAGCAT points were added up.
