FUNDRAISERS are enjoying the sweet smell of success after creating an aromatherapy suite for cancer sufferers.
Patients visiting the Mowbray Suite at Northallerton's Friarage Hospital can benefit from a fragrant and calming aromatherapy service, helping them to relax and unwind.
Aromatherapist Kathryn Almond has been employed to provide the service, enhancing the care and support already given to patients visiting the unit and complementing their medical treatment.
Aimed at improving the wellbeing of cancer patients, the treatment is already proving popular.
Sister Susan Whitehead said: "We would like to say a big thank-you to everyone who has organised fund-raising events and donated money and supported this very worthwhile cause, which is of real benefit to patients.
"The new aromatherapy service is entirely dependent on donations, so we are very grateful for any help we receive. We need to keep the momentum going and encourage staff to be actively involved in fundraising to ensure this valuable service continues."
Kathryn said: "Complementary therapies focus on the person and use a holistic view of each patient in order to ease their stress and discomfort.
"It can be beneficial in reducing the side effects of cancer treatments and ideally it should be an integral part of patient care."
