AN award-winning museum is to come out of hibernation for a science weekend.
Killhope, the North of England Lead Mining Museum, in Weardale, will stage themed workshops on Saturday and Sunday to help celebrate Science Week.
An array of minerals will be on display and visitors will be able to find out from a resident expert how they were put to use.
Workshops for children will include trips down Park Level Mine to look at how light is transmitted, investigations into fluorescence and comparisons of different light sources.
Kate Webb, who is helping to run the activities, said: "Youngsters could come on both days and get something completely different out of it. It's all about having fun, but learning something too."
Killhope will be open from 10.30am to 5pm both days, with the workshops running from 11am to 4pm.
