A POLICE helicopter was called out to Ferryhill after an injured man fled from paramedics.
The man, who is believed to have harmed himself, escaped from paramedics and went on the run in Ferryhill, at about 4.20pm on Sunday.
The helicopter was called to track him down and he was spotted near the Working Men's Club in Ferryhill Station.
A witness, who did not wish to be named, said: "There was a trail of blood on the street and the police helicopter was circling above."
A police spokeswoman said: "He was injured and it was believed that it was self-inflicted injuries.
"He had run off and because there was concern for his well-being the police and helicopter were called out to find him."
Paramedics took the man to Darlington Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries to his hand.
