CHILDREN and families are helping light up a magical lantern procession.
They have been making lanterns out of willow branches and tissue paper to take part in the tenth Springwell and Wrekenton Happy Hearts Lantern Procession, on Friday.
Lantern-making workshops organised by Gateshead Council have been held at Fell Dyke Community Primary School, in Wrekenton, with children from St Oswald's RC Primary School also joining in.
The lanterns will be used during the procession, which celebrates the good things in life and promotes health awareness to people of all ages.
The youngsters have also been making fruit sculptures, wholemeal bread and have composed a number of songs.
The procession will start from The Clinic, in Marsden Grove, Wrekenton, at 6.30pm, and will finish at Fell Dyke school with music, fireworks and food, as well as the lighting of a giant lantern.
