A CINEMA in Northallerton was one pupil's idea when asked what facilities should be made available for youngsters across Hambleton.
Pupils from five schools in the district were asked to give their views and ideas about services for young people in a review conducted by Hambleton District Council.
Members of the council's Cultural and Social Overview and Scrutiny Committee hope to use the information they have gathered to readdress the services already available to youngsters and develop them.
Last month, members of the committee visited Allertonshire School, in North-allerton, Easingwold School, Thirsk School, Stokesley School and Bedale School.
They met with a cross section of pupils to establish young people's views on crime and disorder, facilities they would like to have and their use of council services.
Some of the issues that the youngsters identified were:
* More sports clubs and leisure facilities.
* Cinemas in Bedale and Northallerton.
* More drug advice at school
* Skateboard parks at Thirsk and Bedale.
* A drop in centre with a pool table, TV and computers at Bedale and Stokesley.
* A swimming pool at Easingwold
* Street lighting on certain roads for safety.
Committee members will meet today to discuss the findings in the review. They will also look at usage figures for leisure centres in the district.
Senior youth worker Keith Best, from Northallerton, and outreach worker Amanda Gledhill, from Easingwold, will also have an input at the meeting.
