DRUNKEN vandals are thought to be behind a series of pranks that caused thousands of pounds' worth of damage to cars.
Four cars were found tipped over early on Sunday, in Dipton, near Stanley, County Durham.
Detectives said the incidents took place shortly after midnight, with witnesses reporting loud crashes in Wordsworth Gardens, George Street, Co-operative Terrace East and Delight Court.
Police believe those responsible may have been returning from a late-night drinking session and will be interviewing local licensees.
Detective Sergeant Ian Mitchell, of Derwentside CID, said: "There may have been people with this gang who did not take part in causing the actual damage and I would urge them to come forward."
