A RETIRED Army officer has been appointed as the regimental secretary of the Green Howards.
Major Brian Metcalfe takes over the post temporarily; he will be succeeded by Lieutenant Colonel Pip Leighton in September next year.
However, until then, he will work with the curator of the regimental museum, Major Roger Chapman, who also recruits Green Howards officers.
Major Metcalfe, who lives at Gilling West, will look after the finances of the regimental headquarters.
His duties already include arranging a dinner in the Tower of London to mark the tenth anniversary of His Majesty King Harald V of Norway becoming Colonel in Chief of the Green Howards - a role he took over from his father, King Olav.
The evening will be hosted by the Colonel of the Regiment, who will welcome the King and Queen Sonja as guests.
