FIREFIGHTERS and civilians have been honoured at an awards ceremony in Durham.
The event, at County Durham and Darlington fire brigade headquarters, recognised firefighters' long service and good conduct.
Those who had notched up 30 years' service received silver trays and cut glass decanters.
Others received medals, certificates and gifts, including watches engraved with the Durham County crest.
Among the dignitaries attending the ceremony were chief fire officer George Herbert and the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, Sir Paul Nicholson, who presented the awards.
The Harbisher family from Spennymoor also received an honour for helping to rescue their neighbours from a burning house.
The fire service award recipients were firefighter Norman Brown, firefighter John A Crooks, sub officer Eddie Freeman, leading fire control operator Julie Grosert, firefighter James A Henderson, sub officer Peter Luke, leading firefighter David Rowcroft, John Diamond, sub officer Alex Green, station officer Richy McArdle, sub officer Bob Middleton, and sub officer John Sadler.
