CHEF Ben Greeno has been at the cutting edge in helping his restaurant secure a prestigious Michelin star less than three years after he left a Darlington catering college.
The 22-year-old returned to Darlington College of Technology yesterday to break the news to staff.
Restaurant Sat Bains at the Hotel Des Clos has become the first in Nottingham to be awarded the accolade.
Mr Greeno, of Witton-le-Wear, is sous chef at the restaurant, now one of only 94 in the country to receive a star, which allows the venue to be listed in the Michelin Guide.
He said: "It's a huge achievement for us as we are only a small restaurant. It's just what I have wanted since I was at college and found out what the Michelin star meant."
Mr Greeno left Darlington College's hotel, catering and hospitality course with an NVQ Level 3 certificate.
