A PRIMARY school in Wear Valley has been given a national award in recognition of its efforts to keeps pupils active, fit and healthy.
Howden le Wear Primary School, near Crook, has been presented with the Activemark Gold award by Sport England.
Almost 200 schools received Activemark awards, but only 77 in the whole of the country gained gold standard.
Headteacher Val McCourt said: "We aim to provide all our pupils with the opportunity to be active and have an enjoyable and satisfying experience in doing so, whatever their level of ability.
"In this way we hope to foster a positive attitude towards physical activity so that pupils continue to participate in, and reap the benefits of, a physically active lifestyle. The Activemark Gold award acknowledges the high level of our physical activity programme."
