DRINKERS and traders are warned to be on the lookout for whisky containing enough of the dangerous liquid methanol to cause blindness.
Environmental health and trading standards officers recently put out a warning about counterfeit Johnnie Walker Black Label whisky, which was found to contain methanol.
Fake Highland Pride Finest Scotch Whisky labels have now been found at a warehouse in Berkshire, suggesting the toxic spirit is being sold to people under another name.
As a result, Sunderland City Council trading standards officers are asking traders to check their stock for rogue bottles.
Genuine Highland Pride labels contain the name on only one line and fake bottles of Johnnie Walker all have labels with the distillers' trademark spelled wrongly as Distilleries.
