THE mother of two boys who persistently refused to go to school was fined £40 by magistrates yesterday.
The woman - who cannot be named for legal reasons - pleaded guilty at South Durham Magistrates' Court to two counts of failing to ensure they went to school.
Yvonne Rennard, for Darlington Borough Council, said the 15 and 16-year-old boys attended their comprehensive school for less than six per cent of last term.
Chris Bunting, mitigating, said one of the teenagers had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and both had been off school without their mother's permission.
Terry Wright, magistrates' bench chairman, rejected the prosecution's request for a parenting order. "You have your hands full, obviously," he told the woman.
Another woman - whose 16-year-old daughter's attendance level at school fell to 22 per cent last term - was fined £30
