A FATHER-OF-TWO narrowly missed losing his licence yesterday after a court heard he drove at almost 96 miles an hour on a dual carriageway.
John Harrison, 41, pleaded guilty at South Durham Magistrates' Court to speeding in his Vauxhall Vectra on the A66 at Barnard Castle, in October.
Harrison, of Windle, St Helens, Merseyside, already had nine points on his licence and two previous speeding convictions.
But he told the court he would be sacked from his job as a senior design engineer and would lose his home if he was disqualified from driving.
He was given another five points by magistrates and fined £300 plus £35 costs.
Terry Wright, chairman of the magistrates' bench, told him: "You have been extremely lucky today."
