Actress Denise Welch was on stage at Newcastle's Live Theatre this week to take part in the first play written for the company.
Tom Hadaway's play The Filleting Machine also marks the company's 30th anniversary.
The play was written in 1973 and first performed by the company in the Central Club in North Shields in 1974.
Welch regularly appeared at the Live in the 1980s, and husband Tim Healey was one of the company's founder members.
Set in North Shields, The Filleting Machine tells the story of a family dependent for a living on the precarious fortunes of the North-East fishing industry.
Ma (Welch) sees a future beyond the quays for her children, while Da (played by Trevor Fox) sees cash in hand as the only thing that counts and encourages his son to follow in his footsteps and become a casual worker filleting fish.
The couple's children, Davey and Alice, are played by local youngsters Adam Scott and Stephanie Lacey, who were cast after a series of auditions in the area.
The Filleting Machine runs until Sunday. Tickets are available from the box office on 0191-232 1232.
