ONE of the region's largest boarding prep schools has announced plans for a major expansion.
St Martin's Ampleforth is the co-educational prep school for Ampleforth College, near Helmsley, North Yorkshire, and was only established in September 2001.
It was the result of a merger between Ampleforth College Junior School and nearby St Martin's School, Nawton, bringing together more than 180 pupils.
Now, with numbers up by seven per cent, the school is asking for the go-ahead to erect a building to house the pre-prep and nursery departments, as well as a new art and technology building.
Headteacher Stephen Mullen said: "This significant investment in the school's infrastructure will enable us to accommodate the school's growth, while maintaining the friendly and welcoming atmosphere which is so valued by our pupils and parents."
