A Hawk jet from RAF Leeming was forced to make an emergency landing following a bird strike yesterday
A spokesman for the base said: "The aircraft struck a bird in the Hexham area and landed at Newcastle airport as a precautionary measure. No damage was found."
The aircraft, which had two crew members on board, then continued back to its base.
