THE Darlington annual lantern parade is been given a new image for this year.
The parade, involving children from schools in the town, goes through the streets ending in the Market Square and is the highlight of the town's Christmas celebrations.
Pupils make different lanterns to carry with entertainers on the parade and crowds of people are attracted to the event.
But despite the popularity of the event a decision has been made to change it for this coming year.
The event will be renamed The Festival of Light but no decisions have been made as to what form it will take.
A spokesman for Darlington Borough Council, which organises the event, said: "The lantern parade has been held since 1996 so we decided it was time for a change.
"The Festival of Light will be on a similar theme and whatever we decide the town's children will be involved."
