A NEW partnership may be about to make Scarborough a safer place to live and work.
The Safer Communities Partnership has agreed to assemble a team to pioneer new initiatives in the resort, working closely with the borough council and the police.
The borough council's cabinet member for community development and customer care, Councillor Jane Kenyon, said: "This highlights the priority and importance we place on crime and disorder."
"We now have a team in place to attack those problems at the heart of the quality of life for our community.''
The organisation will be headed by the borough council's crime reduction officer, Anne Boyens.
Other members on the ten-strong panel will represent the police, the fire service and Women's Aid.
Crime Reduction Minister John Denham has already expressed an interest in examining how the new unit will work and a visit is planned for May
