HISTORY was brought to life at the weekend by a group of American Civil War enthusiasts.
The group, from across Britain made the trip to the Eden Camp museum, near Malton, to take part in a re-enactment of the war which saw Union and Confederate soldiers act out battles.
Visitors were also able to ask them questions about life at the time and about the equipment the troops would have used.
"The American Civil War may not seem to have much relevance to a museum which concentrates largely on the Second World War,'' said archivist Nick Hill.
"However, we are running an exhibition at the moment about life as a prisoner of war and, as the conflict in America was where PoW camps were introduced for the first time, it seemed appropriate to invite the troops to Yorkshire.
"Normally, they spend summer re-enactment weekends in tents and out in the open but the group are here at this time of year as we can offer warm dry barrack rooms when it's cold and damp outside.''
The American Civil War Society has about 1,000 members in the UK.
