PEOPLE in Hartlepool are being urged to help protect a local beauty spot by supporting efforts to crackdown on illegal dumping.
Countryside staff are calling on people to be vigilant when visiting Seaton Common Local Nature Reserve (LNR) on the outskirts of Seaton Carew.
A set of ornamental gates was recently dumped in the area and rubble, tyres and old furnishings have all previously been left along an access road and in the car park.
The common is an important wetland habitat for a range of wildlife, including ducks and wading birds.
Robert Smith, a Hartlepool Borough Council countryside warden, said: "Almost everyone who visits this area and the popular dunes and estuary are responsible people who appreciate the efforts we make to improve the area for nature conservation and public enjoyment.
"Unfortunately, there are still a few people who choose to dump large amounts of rubbish."
