Bishop Auckland manager Brian Honour is now looking for a mid-table finish after they easily beat Eastwood Town 3-0 in their crucial six-pointer at Dean Street on Saturday.

Bishops are now 13 points above the relegation places, and in their season's highest placing of fifth from bottom.

"It's been a great week for us," said Honour. "To get seven points from our last three games is fantastic.

"I don't feel totally safe yet, but it will take a minor miracle for Eastwood or Trafford to overtake us now.

"I want the players to finish as high as possible now, and not to relax their efforts.

"I was a little unhappy with our first half performance, because we were nowhere near as good as we were at Spennymoor in midweek, and my half time roasting seemed to work."

Bishops took an early lead when Brian Rowe scored from a Stuart Irvine free kick, and they should have gone further ahead from the penalty spot after Chris Hughes was fouled, but Irvine's spot kick was saved.

However, Bishops took control of the second half. They extended their lead after 49 minutes when Irvine successfully tucked away another penalty, then Neil Maddison scored from the rebound after Michael Fenwick hit the bar.

Spennymoor bounced back from their midweek defeat when they won 1-0 at Belper.

"It was a scrappy game," said assistant manager Jason Ainsley. "But we got three points when it mattered, which is the main thing.

"We played well as a team, especially in the second half, and didn't really allow Belper to create anything."

The only goal came after 56 minutes, when Tony Woodhouse ran through and scored with a shot into the top corner of the net.

Moors are at home to Lincoln United on Tuesday night.

In the Premier Division, Gateshead lost 2-1 at home to Marine after leading 1-0 with 12 minutes left. Paul Thompson put them in front, but ten man Marine won with goals from Tommy Taylor and Rick Bainbridge.

Whitby lost 1-0 at home to Wakefield and Emley, while Blyth lost 1-0 at home to Droylsden, keeper Phil Nesbitt dropping a clanger allowing Gary Burke to score.
