TWO play workers have been appointed to work with children on a Darlington estate.
Elizabeth Bennett and Paula Stainthorp will help to organise activities, chosen by youngsters on the Firthmoor estate, on evenings and weekends.
The posts were made possible after Firthmoor Community Association was awarded £20,000 to improve play activities on the estate over a two-year period.
The cash has come from the Children's Fund and Better Play, a scheme run by Barnardo's, the Children's Council and the New Opportunities Fund.
Association chairman Councillor Roderick Francis said: "The appointment of the play workers will be a great boost for Firthmoor and shows that we are not only listening to the views of young people we are also acting on them. The children of Firthmoor are our future."
