AS Hollywood makes millions with its blockbuster trilogy The Lord of the Rings, a drama enthusiast in North Yorkshire has put another Tolkein classic on the stage.
Joe Stokeld has adapted Tolkein's book, The Hobbit, into a play and is helping to produce it on stage at Northallerton College in July.
The student has also been helping to direct the play with the college's head of dance and drama, Pam Bayston, who said: "It was a huge task and Joe has done magnificently."
It took the 17-year-old about six months to turn the novel into a play. He said: "Sometimes it was hard going, but other times it flowed quite well. It ended up at 110 pages, so now we are having to cut it a bit."
Joe will be playing Thorin, a leading role, in the production, which will be one of the biggest the college has ever undertaken.
About 30 cast members and another 30 crew members have been working on the set since September.
Head of art Jean Lake has been designing the stage and student Sam Lindsay has been writing some original music.
