TOWN councillors at Pickering have backed action to curb speed in Middleton Road and Swainsea Lane because of worries about the safety of children.
A 20mph speed limit is to be imposed, with speed tables at two crossing patrols, near the junction with Swainsea Lane, and at the entrance to Pickering Community Junior School.
Speed cushions are also proposed in four locations in the road, which is one of the main thoroughfares into the town.
Mayor Natalie Warriner said: "There has to be speed restrictions to make the roads safe for our children and at the same time to bear in mind the local residents who want the least invasion on their lives, and to safeguard the appearance of the area."
