PLANS for an environmentally-friendly electricity generating station are being amended following objections from local people.
People in Thornton-le-Dale, near Pickering, were unhappy with the scheme, at the Caulklands landfill site, raising concerns about noise and emissions, as well as the location.
Waste management company Yorwaste has agreed to submit a new plan, taking the facility as far from residents' homes as possible.
Yorwaste hopes to generate electricity by using methane produced by the rubbish that is dumped at the tip, and plans to site the station in the far north-east corner of the site.
The company's technical manager, Jenny Morris, said: "We had another look at our proposal and decided it would be in everyone's interests to move the proposed electricity generating facility further away from the village.
"The costs involved in the relocation are significant and we shall be exploring ways of keeping the extra costs to a minimum.
"We know that the villagers understand the benefits of the scheme, and we hope this new planning application will ease any remaining concerns they may have."
Parish council chairman Wilf Garbutt said: "The new proposals which they have put forward to us do quieten our fears."
