WORK is expected to start in June on the long-awaited restoration of Creet's Bridge, at Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon.
Campaigners recently won a battle, against English Heritage opposition, for the 18th Century flood-damaged structure to be widened, rather than simply restored.
An official of North Yorkshire County Council said work will start in June.
Local campaigners, led by parish councillor Ernie O'Keefe, won a ruling from Government Planning Minister Tony McNulty that work could go ahead on widening the bridge, despite opposition from English Heritage.
The campaign was backed by Kirkby Malzeard Parish Council, Harrogate Borough Council, North Yorkshire County Council and Ripon and Skipton MP David Curry.
There was also a majority of locals in favour of a wider carriageway over the bridge.
