WORK to revive a landmark will get under way on Monday.
The Swing Bridge over the River Tyne is to be repainted in a 17-week operation that will see 3,000 litres of paint used to cover a 15,000 sq metre area.
The bridge, listed as an ancient monument, was last painted fully in 1985. Maintenance of the bridge is jointly funded by Newcastle City Council and Gateshead Council through the Local Transport Plan. The contract will be carried out by Pyeroy.
The bridge will be closed from Monday until Friday, each day from 11pm to 6am.
Further closures, including some in the daytime will follow.
