YOUNG actors are bringing a contemporary version of Shakespeare, with an anti-drugs message, to the stage.
The Customs House Youth Theatre will perform A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Mill Dam, South Shields, venue on Sunday, March 30.
Members of the company, which is based in South Shields, will don punk and gothic costumes to stage the 80-minute modern adaptation.
Director Ged McGarvie said: "A Midsummer Night's Dream is an exciting story about power and love, as well as warning everyone about the dangers of drug use. It is a very entertaining play that will appeal to people of all age groups.
"By updating Shakespeare's work, we are confident people who have never had time for Shakespeare will get interested. His stories are brilliant, and it is a shame so many people are put off the Bard by their experiences at school."
Customs House Youth Dance Group will also perform on the night. The show begins at 7.30pm and tickets cost £2 (£1 concessions). To book, call 0191-454 1234.
