A GROUP of primary school children who gave up their free time to organise a charity sale have raised £260.
After five pupils from Cestria Primary School watched the plight of African villagers struggling without clean water on television's Blue Peter, they returned to school determined to raise money for the programme's WaterWorks Appeal.
The campaign involves raising money to buy taps and pumps that will supply the villages in Tanzania and Uganda with clean water.
Laura Gibb, ten, Dominic Snaith, ten, Ashlee Nesbitt, 11, Rebecca Marshall, 11 and Daniel Young, ten approached headteacher Paul Thompson with proposals for a bring and buy sale in the school.
For two weeks they gave up their playtimes and lunchtimes to organise the event and liaised with dinner staff and the Parent Teacher Association, who offered help and advice.
Headteacher Paul Thompson said: "The group has shown great initiative and has worked hard to achieve this excellent result for such a good cause. I am very proud of them."
