TELECOMS operator BT has confirmed that high-speed broadband communication will be available in Thirsk from May 14.
More than 350 people have said they would use the service. Broadband will be available to more than 4,600 customers once BT Wholesale has completed the upgrade of its Thirsk exchange to provide Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) services.
Kevin Dunn and Tarek Ghouri have campaigned for broadband to be made available in Thirsk, supported by 5,000 leaflets and 200 posters provided by BT.
Mr Ghouri said: "We are delighted with the response of the local people and businesses of Thirsk."
ADSL broadband uses existing phone lines but operates at ten times the speed of standard Internet connections, eliminating delays while large files and graphics download.
It is always connected, so users no longer worry about running-up charges online.
