FOUR people suspended from a North-East kitchen manufacturers in January remain off work, the company said yesterday.
The workers were suspended following an internal investigation into stock discrepancies at Magnet's Allington Way site in Darlington. A spokeswoman for the company said there was no update on the situation.
BUS TRAGEDY: An inquest into the death of Jenny Spedding, 86, of Local Avenue, Sherburn Hill, Durham, was opened and adjourned by North Durham Coroner Andrew Tweddle yesterday. Mrs Spedding died on February 24 as she crossed the road near the exit to the bus station on Durham's North Road. The widow was formally identified through DNA.
STAR AWARDS: Ex-Big Brother star Jonny Regan presented awards to more than 50 volunteers at a ceremony in Darlington. The former firefighter was joined by fellow TFM DJ Anna B at Club 2K to hand prizes to Sedgefield YMCA Millennium Volunteers, on Monday.
WOOD'S BACK: Former Tyne Tees news presenter Duncan Wood is to join Yorkshire Television on its flagship early evening news programme. Wood, who has worked for six years as GMTV's Northern Correspondent, will team up with Christine Talbot for a new-look Calendar show.
CHARITY MATCH: Staff from Century FM Radio and the Teesside-based Springs Health Club are competing in a charity football match on Sunday, at 3pm. The event takes place at Billingham Town Football Club and will raise money for Cancer Research UK.
INQUEST OPENS: An inquest into the death of Mark Howcroft, 29, of Dene Drive, Carrville, Durham, whose body was found in bed on March 19, was opened and adjourned yesterday. Evidence of identification was given by his brother-in-law.
BEACH BODY: Police have still not identified the body of a man found washed up on the beach at Saltwick Bay, near Whitby, North Yorkshire, last Friday. A Home Office pathologist has carried out a post-mortem examination of the remains.
GIRLS' VOICES: The girl choristers of Salisbury Cathedral will join the girls of York Minster Choir for evensong in York tonight. The joint venture is part of a week-long tour of the region by the Salisbury Cathedral girls, which gives them the chance to sing with other young choristers.
ARTEXHIBITION: Artist Denise Macgregor, who was born in Lazenby, near Redcar, east Cleveland, is holding a show of her work at the Pizza Express restaurant, in Skinnergate, Darlington until May 4.
HEAD HUNT: The former head boy of Dormanstown Secondary School, Redcar, east Cleveland, is trying to get in touch with former classmates. Kevin Hanson left the school in 1969. He can be contacted on (01287) 637497.
