A PENSIONER who has spent more than 60 years knitting for hospitals in the region has delivered her latest work to a special care baby unit.
Joan Howe, 81, from Darlington, visited the town's Memorial Hospital this week to present blankets she has made to the premature baby unit. She regular gives blankets to the hospital and to the patients at The Friarage Hospital, Northallerton.
Mrs Howe, who has seven children, 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, also knits for her family.
One of her grandchildren, Donna Cela, said: "She has always knitted, ever since she was a teenager.
"She always makes things for the family as well as knitting for the hospitals.
"Since she lost her husband she spends all her time knitting and watching television."
